Hi, my name is Damien Beckinger. I am originally
from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and have been living in New York for just over a
year. I have a Bachelors in Economics, but quickly realized a few months into
my unsuccessful job hunt that I had no passion or desire to actually be in the
field of economics.
I have no formal teaching experience, although
I was an afterschool counselor at the YMCA for 4 years during college and
continued this job at Prospect Park YMCA in Brooklyn. After reaching a dead end
with economics and realizing how rewarding I found working with kids to be, I
decided to start perusing my Master’s in Education.
Here are some fun memories from working at the YMCA over the years....
Reindeer Cupcakes I made for Christmas 2011
My going away gifts for my last day at the YMCA
A gift from a child who bonded with me over a mutual love of Pokemon

Damien, nice to meet you (sort of in a virtual way)! Have you heard of Math for America? If not I suggest you look it up! It is a fantastic fellowship program for math teachers, especially career changers with a background in math! I am currently in the early career fellowship and it is absolutely amazing. The opportunities and perks are endless. I look forward to sharing ideas with you!
